Boy, as we say in the saddle, it has been one rocky ride! The ups and downs of self publishing have certainly opened my eyes. Just when you think your in the home stretch, along comes another obstacle to tackle.
I have to admit though, even when it feels overwhelming, I remind myself how fortunate I am to be able to be in the drivers seat and make so many decisions. It has taught me how to trust in myself. It has not been easy at times, many times. But, as the book takes shape from a beautiful story that I once held only in my heart, to one I am about to share with the world, well it is brings a lot of joy and gratitude.
Writing a memoir is a very personal endeavor. It is also a solitary pursuit. A journey that took me through so many emotions. In the end, Milagro, my horse, kept me going. His story, our story, is a journey of the soul. I knew I wanted to share it with others. When someone, or some being, touches your heart and your life the way he has, its a story worth telling.
So as I near the end of this long and trying endeavor, it pays to remind myself why I wrote it in the first place. I have to take a step back from all the normal, real world distractions, and breath deep into my heart to feel the purpose, the reason.
I have been taking more deep breaths lately but its all in the power of the process. In just a short time the story will be out there. It won't be a secret in my heart any longer. I will have accomplished my goal of not only writing and telling the story about me and Milagro, but also I will have made all the detailed decisions along the way. What a wonderful surprise.
